Discovering Mother Meera: A Journey of Divine Connection.
Who is Mother Meera?
Mother Meera, born Kamala Reddy on December 26, 1960, in Chandepally, a small village in Telangana, India, is revered by her followers as an embodiment of the Divine Mother, also known as Shakti or Devi.
Early Life and Spiritual Awakening
Mother Meera’s spiritual journey began at a very young age. At just six years old, she experienced her first samādhi, a state of deep spiritual absorption, which lasted an entire day. This profound experience marked the beginning of her spiritual path.
When she was 12, her uncle, Bulgur Venkat Reddy, met her for the first time. He believed that he had already seen her in visions and came to recognize her as the Divine Mother. He dedicated himself to her care, supporting her spiritual development. Her parents, Antamma and Veera Reddy, lived in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh.
Journey to the West
In 1974, her uncle took her to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry, India, where she encountered Westerners for the first time and began giving darshan, a spiritual blessing. Though no longer affiliated with the Ashram, this period marked the start of her global spiritual mission.
Mother Meera’s travels took her to Canada in 1979, and by 1981, she made her first trip to West Germany. She settled there with her uncle and her close companion, Adilakshmi. In 1982, she married a German citizen. Her uncle passed away in 1985 and was buried in Dornburg-Thalheim, Hesse, Germany.
Present-Day Activities
Today, Mother Meera conducts darshan at Schloss Schaumburg in Balduinstein, Germany, and frequently visits the United States. Thousands of people of all religions come to receive her darshan, which she offers in complete silence. During darshan, she touches a person’s head and looks into their eyes, a process believed to untie knots in their subtle system and fill them with light. Remarkably, she does not charge any money for her blessings and does not give lectures.
Mother Meera’s Mission
Mother Meera’s spiritual mission is to bring down a dynamic light-force from the Supreme (Paramatman) to make spiritual progress easier on Earth. She explains this light as being like electricity, everywhere but needing activation. Through simple practices like Japa (mental remembrance of a divine name or mantra), people can connect with this light.
She emphasizes devotion to God (Bhakti) and teaches the unity of all religions, encouraging everyone to follow their own spiritual paths while staying connected to the light through prayer, reading, or meditation.
Controversies and Criticism
Mother Meera has faced criticism, notably from Andrew Harvey, a former follower who accused her of homophobia in his book, “The Sun at Midnight.” Harvey’s claims are disputed by others, including writer Mark Matousek, who has stated that these accusations are baseless.
